Apprentice Administration Assistant - Reference Number VAC001630530

An exciting opportunity to join our supportive and friendly colleagues at The John Fielding Special School to assist the administration team in the provision of clerical and administrative duties.

Working week Monday to Friday, between 8am to 4pm. Term time only plus inset days. Details to be confirmed.

Total working hours - 37 per week, Weekly Wage £153.55 Expected duration - 18 Months, 
Possible start date - 01 Sep 2020  - Apprenticeship level - Advanced Level 3 (A level)

Duties to include:

  • To carry out telephone, reception and messenger duties
  • To provide administrative support, including filing, word processing and reprographics work and data input
  • To open, distribute incoming mail, record and send outgoing mail. Receive incoming goods and check against orders as required
  • To assist the arrangement of routine in school activities such as medical or dental examinations, school photographs, induction evenings etc.
  • To assist with the general administration of work experience, school trips etc.
  • To assist in the compilation of such reports and records, and assessment of data as may be required by the school, governors, Education Authority or DfE
  • To assist in the compilation, maintenance and analysis of registers
  • To maintain such records as may be required, including admissions, leavers, staff and student records. Archiving of files in accordance with the Retention Guidelines for Schools
  • To liaise with parents as directed regarding issues relating to individual pupils, including investigating absences
  • To handle cash in line with the schools finance policy, which may include collecting money from pupils and parents
  • To input data onto computerised systems e.g. SAP, SIMS, Integris (or other database software) as required
  • To maintain confidentiality and Data Protection under GDPR rules when handling sensitive information and tasks

To attend Boston College for your apprenticeship workshop one day per month (which may sometimes be in the school holidays), keeping up to date with all assignments and tasks and ensuring they are submitted within the agreed timeframe

The entry qualifications for the Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship are five GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including English and maths or equivalents at Level 2 or above.

Apprentice Teaching Assistant - Reference Number VAC001632739

Working week Monday - Friday, 08:30 - 15:30, with some flexibility for meetings and/or staff training. You will also attend college for half a day per week which may finish later. Total hours per week: 34.50. Expected duration 2 years, Weekly wage £143.18, Possible start date 01 Sep 2020, Apprenticeship level Advanced Level 3 (A level)

To work with individual children having special or particular needs, in accordance with the child’s Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) where appropriate and/or groups of children as directed by the teacher.

Duties will include:

    • To provide support to the Head Teacher or teachers across a range of child centred activities to promote child development and learning
    • Act in accordance with school policies and procedures and relevant legislation, particularly in relation to child protection and behaviour management
    • Assist with the planning and preparation of activities and in the delivery of local and national initiatives e.g. literacy and numeracy strategy
    • Participate in the preparation of the classroom
    • Monitor children’s needs and reporting these to a designated person
    • Keep records as required by the school
    • Have familiarity with all relevant EHCPs specific to the child
    • Promote development and learning (physical, emotional, educational, and social)
    • Foster growth, self-esteem, and independence, observe and record development
    • Support those with special needs
    • Carry out reasonable daily personal care/hygiene duties and administer basic first aid
    • Assist with the movement of children in and around the school
    • To attend Boston College once a week during term time and ensure completion of unit assignments within agreed timeframes
